The humble Thistle weed holds a place of honor as the national flower of Scotland. Legend has it that it protected the Scottish clansmen when the Viking warriors tried to stealthily attack them in the middle of the night.  In order to sneak up on the clansman the Vikings came barefoot.  The Scots were awoken to the howls of pain as the Vikings stepped on the thistle.  The Vikings lost their surprise and the fiery Scots won the battle.   To me it represents a wild beauty while also having a tough exterior.
